Firmware Notice: EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM and EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM: Firmware Version 1.0.8.0

Firmware Version 1.0.8.0 incorporates the following fix:
Corrects the issue where exposure flicker may occur during movie shooting when the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens with Firmware Version 1.0.7 or the EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM lens with Firmware Version 1.0.7 are attached to certain EOS DSLR cameras¹ and the camera’s shooting mode is set to M or Av mode.

Note: If using a EOS R or EOS M series camera to update the lens’ firmware, a mount adaptor is required.

Note: If you are not able to perform the firmware update, please contact Canon Customer Service Center and follow the Workaround procedures listed below.

Workaround

During movie shooting, follow the workaround procedures below to prevent the issue from occurring.

 Extender TypeWorkaround
 Lens Only No Extender For movie shooting, set the camera according to options (1) or (2) listed below.
  1. In the camera’s Custom Functions, set the exposure level increments to 1/2-stop or 1-stop.
    *The possible values that can be set vary depending on the camera model.
  2. Set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
 Lens with Extender Extender EF1.4x For movie shooting, set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
 Extender EF2x For movie shooting, set the camera according to options (1) or (2) listed below.
  1. In the camera’s Custom Functions, set the exposure level increments to 1/2-stop or 1-stop.
    Note:*The possible values that can be set vary depending on the camera model.
  2. Set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
