Google will discontinue the Google Cloud Print (GCP) service on December 31, 2020. As a result, the GCP function on Canon inkjet printers will no longer be supported.
Google has recommended using the ChromeOS native printing function instead of GCP. Procedures describing how to add a printer to support ChromeOS native printing are provided below.

Please note that the following may occur if you attempt to use GCP after December 31, 2020.
  • When attempting to print with GCP service:
    • The print job is not sent from GCP to the printer
    • Printing does not start
    • No error occurs
  • A message “Cannot connect to the sever.” is displayed when attempting to run “Google Cloud print setup” on the printer’s operation panel.

Note: The GCP registration information from the individual account, including the printer, is deleted.

Procedure to add a printer to support ChromeOS native printing.

  1. Connect the printer to the same router as your Chromebook.
  2. Add the printer to your Chromebook.
  3. a. Select Settings.
    b. At the bottom, select Advanced.
    c. Under "Printing," select Printers.
    d. Under "Available printers to save," next to your printer, select Save.
    e. Check that your printer appears at the top, under "Saved printers."

Note: Printing can be performed after the printer is searched and added in the OS setting window.
