Service Notice: EOS Utility 2.2 for Mac OSX

Update

To Customers Using the Remote Live View Function of EOS Utility 2.2 Macintosh Version software with Digital SLR Cameras: EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark III and EOS 40D:

February 13, 2007

Thank you for using Canon products.

We have discovered that when using the Live View function of EOS Utility 2.2 for Macintosh or EOS Utility 2.2 Updater for Macintosh (referred to hereafter as "EOS Utility") in tandem with EOS digital cameras: EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark III and EOS 40D, an image transfer or save problem may occur in specific usage situations. Accordingly, we would like to inform you of the details.

We offer our sincerest apologies to our customers who have been inconvenienced by this problem. Going forward, we will spare no effort in our quality management to make sure our customers can use Canon products with confidence. We hope our efforts will earn your understanding.

Phenomenon

After displaying the Live View window using the remote shooting function of EOS Utility 2.2 for Macintosh, if you close the Live View window and release the shutter from the camera*1, the EOS Utility software will stop responding. When this occurs, images will neither be transferred nor saved to the computer, nor displayed on the screen. Additionally, images will not be saved to the memory card unless, before shooting, "Save also on the camera's memory card" is selected in the "Preferences" menu of EOS Utility's remote shooting function.

*1: This phenomenon does not occur when the shutter is released from the computer.

Note that this phenomenon only occurs when the Macintosh version of EOS Utility 2.2 is used with the Live View function that comes with the cameras listed below; it does not happen with the Windows version of EOS Utility 2.2, or with other versions of EOS Utility.

Affected Products

Macintosh version of EOS Utility 2.2 used in combination with EOS Digital SLR cameras: EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark III and EOS 40D
