Meet the FADGI technical guidelines for digitization with Canon U.S.A., Inc.
By June 30, 2024, Federal agencies will be required to manage all permanent records in a digital format. Prepare for the transition to electronic records with the Canon FADGI Compliance Installation Package, currently available for the imageFORMULA DR-G2110, DR-G2110 USB, DR-G2140, and DR-G2140 USB Production Document Scanners.1
Digital Record Keeping
The Federal Agency Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) is a government effort created to aid in the development of clear and coherent guidelines for digital record keeping2. These guidelines help to ensure uniform quality and establish best practices and image quality standards for record digitization within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
According to federal mandate M-23-07, all permanent records sent to NARA after June 30, 2024 will be required to be submitted in an electronic format.
The Canon FADGI Compliance Installation Package
To adhere to the new FADGI compliance standard, the Canon FADGI Compliance Installation Package helps government agencies meet the FADGI recommendations that should be followed when it comes to scanning, processing, and creating digital replicas of permanent hard-copy documents and records.
The Installation package includes:
- On-site installation of custom firmware designed to generate images that conform to the quality and performance guidelines defined for the FADGI Modern Textual Records category3
- Streamlined verification process to confirm the scanner is now ready to start generating FADGI compliant images

- The Canon Installation Package for FADGI Compliance cannot be ordered for existing scanners that have already been registered in Canon’s Authorized Servicer/Dealer Customer Registration System (ASCR) or with new scanners to be registered in ASCR.
- FADGI compliance requirements are subject to updates by participating U.S. Federal Agencies. Visit www.digitizationguidelines.gov for the latest FADGI requirements and information.
- To enable FADGI compliance, the Scanner’s driver settings may need to be changed, and Canon CaptureOnTouch software must be installed on the customer’s workstation that is connected to the Scanner. The Firmware may affect the scanning speed of the Scanner.
